AVC Education Committee Terms of Reference- Draft

Purpose of Education Committee:

To support the ongoing education of members about good co-op governance, co-op principles, and member rights and responsibilities, and to inform membership about educational opportunities in a fun and accessible way.

The Education Committee will centralize, prioritize, and make accessible this information (collected from credible sources, primarily the CHF-BC) and ensure there are ongoing opportunities for all members to learn about co-op housing.

A priority of the committee will be board succession education, as this is a fundamental responsibility of all co-op members and historically it has been obscure and confusing. 

Background:

Co-op members have many rights and responsibilities that are crucial to the health and functionality of the co-op. But many members are not aware of this, as they lack the knowledge of where to look for this information and the time to prioritize learning. This has led to misunderstandings in the co-op regarding the responsibilities of the Board of Directors, the membership, and COHO in the running of the co-op.
