This is part of the Events Committee Weekly Quarantine Challenge.
Entries this week!
- Kristie MK For plant based takeout:
We love takeout from chickpea, their polenta fries are perfect! Sabich is a favorite too. Two platters feeds our whole family a full dinner and a full lunch of leftovers.
We also love virtuous pie, our favorite is stranger wings, CBR and sweet pepper. The kids hate it though, too many flavors. We usually just make them garden chick'n and peas so we can indulge without their whining. - Ron Santos Rolling Cashew and Chau Veggie are also good plant based options. And we also love Dosas, our favorurite is Dosa Corner (many gluten-free and vegan options). We usually order take out and pick it up. Our favourites are the Eggplant Dosa and Spinach Masala Dosa. Looks like Uber Eats can pick up and deliver https://www.ubereats.com/vancouver/food-delivery/dosa-corner/OzXozV4NSo2lQ480a5xonQ
Forgot to include one of our new favourites which we've been ordering weekly is Kula Kitchen which makes Afrocentric plant-based foods. https://kulakitchen.ca/ - Brianne Elizabeth Bao down!! Since I am gluten free, its so nice to have chicken wings from there- my favourite is the salt and pepper ones, I dont mind the honey garlic. so I get a couple of boxes of those (only 6 in a box but worth it!) and sometimes i also get their garlic shrimp and rice dish. mmmm!
- Audrey Clarkson Sawasdee on Main has amazing Thai food. Pad Thai, curries, spring rolls and papaya salad are so good. Their purple dumplings are a must too. We also love the Greenleaf Sushi on Broadway when we’re feeling some fancy sushi.
- Meg O'Shea vietnamese from DD Mau (omni) or from Do Chay (vegan)
- Emily Kennedy ❤️ DD Mau
Also We have been loving the veggie pad thai from Bao Down (love all the added veggies), the portobello burger at Brewhall (they have curly fries too!), Manna Sushi, InDish food truck (vegan butter chicken sauce is yum!), DD Mau (tofu banh mi sub rice paper wrap), La Taqueria, Rolling Cashew food truck (croquets & cauliflower wings). - Jenna Bedore Indian Roti kitchen on Cambie- delicious, huge portions (one roti is enough for dinner and lunch the next day), and very affordable. Plus, it seems like it is a one woman show- the woman who runs it is impressive!
- Susan Maclaren agree re Indian Roti kitchen . Be aware though that their spice level is considerably higher than most! We usually order “medium” but order “mild” with them. Very yummy with high “picante”
- Jenny Allan I love the ginger beef from Peaceful Restaurant. For sushi we usually do Yanaki. For Thai we usually get from Aree Thai, Sawasdee or Bob Likes Thai Food.
- Leigh Greenius We like Manna sushi or we do Beyond burgers from Craft or Tap and Barrel.
- Kimberley Plut Hodgson We have been enjoying the super Thai food truck at hinge park. Love the curry...nice and spicy! (Excited to try some of the other places mentioned!)
Oh and we also enjoy Peaceful - Xia long dim sum, Dan Dan noodles, garlic beans, mandarin chicken - Marlene Yuen Argo Cafe has a take home menu of pasta sauces and soups. https://www.argocafe.ca
- Tara Our entry for this weeks co-op challenge for fav place for take out is Jam Jar. https://www. jamjarcanteen.ca/
- Ryanne James This guy is awesome and he makes bad ass patties. He lives in my neighbourhood, he has a cool dog, a cool husband and you should order some patties from him: https://www.elbopatties.com/
Also https://anhandchi.com/takeout-menu/ - Katherine Lee My favourite place for lunch take out is Field and Social. They’re affiliated with a few ordering platforms, so the process of ordering then picking up is pretty seamless and timely.
- Simi’s fave is Japadog...the truck but NOT the stand...
- Caitlin Cooper So excited to try some of the suggestions above!! We still have our faves from when we lived in the Westend... Cafe Phin for Bahn mi ( love their lemon grass tofu with extra pickled veggies) and Pho Express Ankor for Pho- I just really struggle with the packaging for take out Pho, so it’s a bit of a special/ very occasional thing. Locally we have been enjoying Bao Down through Covid- I had a couple bad experiences over the years, but it’s been pretty good over the past few months - I like their green curry, pad Thai and of course the Baos. Also Ignite Pizza on Main, Gusto Pizza, and margherita pizza from Terra Breads, though it’s a bit more of a pain now to get it.
- Nels Anderson It's maybe a touch far for a quick walk, but Sal y Limon down on Kingsway has *amazing* burritos/tacos: http://salylimon.ca/
- Lauren Venegas I love Chau Veggie for another veggie mention! Sushi Bang on Cambie never fails me, and Hi Nippon sushi on west 4th in kits is INCREDIBLE. Kokomo delivers through several apps and is also incredible vegan food.
- Helen Stortini We’re big fans of Harvest Noodles over on Union St.
- Sue Moroney We love Carp Sushi & Bowl....on Prince Edward at Broadway !!
- John N Cooper L'Atelier bakery on E5th near Main makes the best croissant in Vancouver. I look forward to sitting on my balcony in the mid-morning sun having my croissant with raspberry jam and an espresso and imagining where I might be - until the squawking gulls bring me back to the fact I'm in Vancouver. A single piece of Pecorino Blanco pizza cut into 4 squares from Gusto is our neighbourhood favourite. Pure Bread at 5th and Ontario has some great options, such as buckwheat scone.
